MORE THAN GEARS: THE COMPONENTS THAT DRIVE THEM

A complete drive system is rarely just gears. It also needs the shafts that carry them, the splines that transmit torque between mating parts, and the pinions that drive the mesh. We make these components to the same precision standard as our gears, so you can source and qualify an entire sub-assembly in one place.

We cut internal and external splines in both involute and straight-sided forms, produce spline shafts matched to their mating hubs, and machine integral gear, worm, and pinion shafts where the teeth are cut directly onto the shaft. Sprockets, timing pulleys, and serration tooth forms round out the family.

From a single prototype to high-volume OEM production, our engineers help with component design, material selection, fit to mating parts, and full inspection documentation. ISO 9001 certified and ITAR registered.

Pinions & Pinion Shafts

Spur, helical, and stem/shaft pinions, including integral shaft-and-pinion parts where the teeth are cut right on the shaft. Hardened and precision ground for low backlash and long mesh life.

Splines: Internal & External

Involute and straight-sided (SAE parallel-key) spline forms, internal and external. Broached, hobbed, or shaped and gauged to fit their mating components.

Spline Shafts

Precision spline shafts produced to print and matched to mating hubs, with ground journals, keyways, and shoulder features for accurate location and torque transfer.

Gear & Worm Shafts

Integral gear shafts and worm shafts with CNC-turned diameters, keyways, threads, and bearing journals, combining the gear feature and the shaft in one finished part.

Sprockets & Pulleys

Custom sprocket tooth forms for chain and conveyor drives, plus timing and gear pulleys, cut to standard or non-standard pitches and finished to your application's wear and fit requirements.

Serrations

Fine serration tooth forms for couplings, clamps, and adjustment joints, produced with the same controlled geometry and repeatability as our gear work.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Involute splines use a tooth profile much like a gear. They self-center under load and carry more torque for a given size, which is why they're the usual choice for power transmission. Straight-sided (SAE parallel-key) splines have flat, parallel flanks and tend to show up in simpler sliding fits and older designs. We make both, internal and external, to your print or sample.
Yes. We broach or shape internal splines, then gauge them to fit the mating shaft. For integral shaft pinions and gear or worm shafts, we CNC-turn the shaft features first and then hob or grind the teeth directly onto the shaft, so there's no joint between a separate gear and shaft.
Yes. Alongside gears and splines, we make custom sprocket tooth forms for chain and conveyor drives, and fine serration tooth forms for couplings, clamps, and adjustment joints, all held to the same controlled geometry and repeatability as our gear work.
Common materials include 4140, 4340, 8620, and 9310 alloy steels, 17-4 PH stainless, and specialty alloys, with case hardening, through hardening, or nitriding coordinated to spec. Ground components reach up to AGMA Class 15, verified by analytical gear inspection, CMM, spline gauging, and hardness testing.
